Duncan Williams Voice Programs

The 2023 Finalists with Founding Artistic Director, Alexa Smith and Mezzo J'Nai Bridges

Duncan Williams Voice Programs aims to eliminate barriers for Black and Latinx singers. We address systemic barriers faced by singers of color within opera and classical music. Our mission is to discover rising talent while supporting singers and meeting needs that are often unaddressed in traditional competitions.

About Us

The program is named for baritone Todd Duncan and soprano Camilla Williams, the first African-American singers to sing with a major United States company when they made their debut with New York City Opera.

The 2023 competition was open to singers 18+ in two divisions: The Developing Artist Division (for ages 18-25) and The Emerging Division (for ages 26+).

The 2024 program will be open to singers 18+ who will audition to perform in a series of master classes, recitals and more over in June.

There is NO FEE to participate in ANY Duncan Williams programs and events.

Support Our Singers

Our programs are created to remove financial barriers for singers of color and provide funding for travel, music making, and all other costs normally incurred by singers in a competition. All gifts go directly to support these efforts. All gifts receive name acknowledgment on our website and in our programs.
